Rubbish to Riches - Jamie Blackwell

Nehemiah is famous for rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Going from Rubbish to Riches for the Jews was a huge undertaking.

First there was Nehemiah's grief over sin.

There was his prayer for restoration.

Then there's a much-needed inspection.

Finally, he gets to the work.

As soon as the building starts, the work is ridiculed and discouragement sets in.

Nehemiah 4:10 says; And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.

I feel like this lesson learned from Nehemiah can be applied to our lives to go from Rubbish to Riches in our homes.

Now that I have 2 grown daughters and empty nest is on the horizon, I can look back at some mistakes made in building my home. I can see that sometimes there was too much rubbish in the way. Rubbish by getting angry over messes.

Rubbish for worrying instead of having faith. Rubbish when watching TV instead of getting things done. Don't we all have rubbish sometimes.

When we find our homes collecting rubbish; whether it's sin, worries and fears, laziness, anger, bitterness, or discouragement, we can follow Nehemiah's example. We know that Nehemiah kept working on getting rid of the rubbish and eventually built the wall! Don't let rubbish overtake your home. Keep working to build a Godly home.

Recognize the sin, pray for restoration, inspect your own heart, and get to work getting rid of the rubbish. I think we all want our homes to filled the Riches!

Here's just a few verses that speak on the Riches we have in the Lord!

Psalm 112

Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD...

Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

Proverbs 22:4

By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.

Romans 11:33

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

Ephesians 1:7

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Philippians 4:19

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

If we would only give God the preeminence in our homes, Oh the riches we can have!
