The Benefits of Stillness - Sherri Roberson

Ladies, would you agree we are a busy people. The busyness of keeping house, cooking,  taking kids to practices, church and the list could go on and on. If we aren’t careful the day will get away from us without giving any thought to God. I love the verse in Psalms 46:10. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. There are tremendous benefits of being still. When God created us He gave us five senses, I want to look at three of those senses. When we get to the place where we can be still there are  some wonderful benefits.

I. We can SEE when we are still

a. The Beauty of Creation - Gen. 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth. We get to enjoy all that God created, that is a wonderful thing.

b. The Blessings of Family - Be thankful for your family, tell them often that you love them. c. The Burdens of Others - We all have burdens, you never know what someone is going through Be kind, Be thoughtful, Be an encouragement.

II. We can HEAR when we are still.

We can hear the voice of God. 1Kings 19 talks about Elijah hearing a still small voice. We as born again Christians can hear Gods voice as well, it takes Faith in Him. Lets talk a bit about Faith. One of the greatest stories of Faith in the Bible is in Mark 24-34, this speaks of a woman who had an issue of blood for twelve years. She reached out to Christ, touched the hem of His garment and was instantly healed. Her faith is what healed her. She had faith that if she could just touch the hem of His garment she would be healed, and she was. How many of us have that kind of faith?

Here are a couple ways to increase our faith.

1. Read God’s word-Romans 10:17 says so then Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

2.Heed God’s word- James 1:22-24 says But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

Lastly,

III. We can TOUCH when we are still.

a. Touch others with our testimony, what kind of testimony do you have?

You have heard it said, a testimony can be destroyed in a split second that took a lifetime to build. That is why it is important how we act, how we talk, how we dress. You may be the only Bible someone ever reads.

b. Touch heaven with our prayers. Do you have a prayer life? Can you be counted on to reach heaven for someone? Do you have time you spend everyday in His word? Ladies I encourage you to take time out of your busy day everyday and just BE STILL!

BE STILL

Amidst the toil and rush of our day,

Do we ever stop to pray?

Is it all toil and hurry?

And is our time filled with worry?

We neglect the principle need

When on our knees we forget to plead!

Our needs go beyond the daily grind

What’s the use if peace we never find?

We need the quite place

Where we may avail ourselves of God’s amazing grace Amidst the toil and rush- be still

And know that in adversity we may grow.

Trouble is our servant to cause us gain

Not just instruments to cause us pain

God, the controller and sovereign ruler of all  Numbers the hair on our heads and notes the sparrows fall.

Let us not forget the quite place

Where we avail ourselves of His grace.

In His presence we must come apart

To be still and know with a quite heart.

So amidst your daily toil, in the secret place of your being, Don’t be content with doing and seeing.

Commune with Him in quite repose

Confidently resting in Him who sees and knows.
