"Seeing the Cardiologist" - Perri Brock
Isn’t life funny? We go along with the idea that life is hard- they quit selling my favorite hairspray- my favorite show went of air- the kids just won’t quit fighting- until one day life, real life hits out of nowhere.
Just a little dizziness and all of a sudden you’re being sent to the most expensive doctor in town- “the Cardiologist”. I mean even the name sounds expensive!
This happened recently with us- and currently my husband is wearing the dreaded monitor. You know - the little sticky thing that tells what’s going on in an otherwise dark and unthought of place. This tiny little device will not only monitor but it records AND notifies the doctor of any indiscreptancy. It invades every part of your life, documenting exactly what is causing such a change in your system. It’s there to figure out what is causing evident problems from an unevident source.
Which brings me to what the little small voice whispered late last night- if you’re willing to go to great lengths to see a Cardiologist- to listen to this doctor- to allow him to be a part of something so big- why aren’t you doing the same with me your Spirirtual Cardiologist?
Isn’t it always grand when God speaks in a way we understand? He takes our everyday circumstance and right in the middle of it speaks truth that is so relatable and applicable.
God is just like that Cardiologist and He takes and does the same thing to our hearts spiritually.
1. He checks for a pulse.
Now this sounds silly- but there is no way your heart can be monitored if there is no pulse.
God will first and foremost check the one seeing Him- to see if He can find a pulse. He checks to see if the heart beating within is pumping with blood bought by His son. He checks to see if there is life within that has been renewed.
Romans 10:10 says “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Have you gotten your spiritual pulse yet thru salvation?
2. He checks to see if your heart is in rhythm with Him.
So many of the problems with heart patients is their heart has gotten out of rhythm. It’s beating at an erratic or uneven pace and is causing a ripple effect in their system. Is your heart in tune with God? Is your heart beating with His will and His desires or has it gotten out of kilter? Does your heart beat a certain pattern that goes against God?
Psalms 73:26 says “ My flesh and my heart faileth..” Even the great psalmist David said he was struggling with setting his heart to the rhythm of the Lord. Do you have the same issue? Is your heart trying to slow down or speed up what God is putting for a the standard?
3. He checks to see how He can fix your heart.
Wouldn’t it prove absolutely pointless if you were to go to the cardiologist- he diagnosed a problem then sent you home with nothing remedied? You left his office with the problem you went in with?
How good it is to know that while that may happen in a fleshly realm in the realm of heaven it never will. God will never view us, seeing our issue and not gives us the prescription for getting fixed.
Matter of fact Proverbs 23:26 says “ My son, give me thine heart and let thine eyes observe my ways.”
Proverbs 4:23 says- “Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life.”
The heavenly prescription for my heart problem is to set the eyes of my soul- my heart on the Lord. For in my heart is where genuine faith and character can be formed.
So for now- we are wearing the device- for now we are monitoring the pulse, the rhythm, and hopefully going to fix the problem. Also at the same time we are being reminded that One greater and higher and more all knowing can do the same to us. He can see our problem, our situation- he can see what may be unevident to us and he can remedy it. For when we go to see God- we are seeing our Heavenly Cardiologist!
