I Choose to be a Christian! - Abby Sapp
All week I've been praying for the Lord to give me wisdom on what to do my devotion on and the Lord put on my heart to do a devotion on purity and your personal testimony. It is so incredibly important to be pure, purity is not just dressing modestly and not touching the opposite gender, purity has to do with the heart, soul and mind. A lot of the time if your heart, soul and mind aren't pure neither will your appearance, words or actions. be pure
Every day when you wake up, get ready and are about to leave your home for the day. Do a heart check, if your heart is right with the Lord, you will know if your outfit that day is modest and pleasing to the Lord. Also, ask the Lord to guide your words for the day and your thoughts.
I've grown up in a Christian home my whole life, which I am so grateful for, but as I've gotten older, I've realized that a lot of Christians use our Lord's name in vain often, sometimes without even realizing it. I've heard so many people say, “oh my gosh” or “omg” or other terms with the same meaning and it disappoints me more and more every single time I hear a Christian take the Lord's name in vain. We expect to hear it from the world or an unsaved person, they don't know any better, but to hear it from someone who is in church and lives for the Lord is so disappointing and as a Christian we should want to be a good example for others, the saved and the unsaved. When people say “oh my gosh” they are clearly using the Lord's name in vain. “Gosh” is slang for God and when people say it, they are throwing GOD's name around like its nothing, like it doesn't even matter.
Another thing I wanted to talk about is our testimonies. We can also take the Lord’s name in vain just by the way we act or live our daily lives. It is so important to keep our testimonies clean and Christ honoring. We don't only do things that affect our own personal testimonies, what we do affects our families’ testimonies and our church's testimony. We are representatives of our Lord, and we should do our best to please Him.
I'm sure you've heard the expression “You may be the only Bible some will ever read,” that saying is so true and we need to take it seriously. One area that is becoming more and more scarce in Christian society is dress standards. People that have grown up in church or have been in church for even a little while should be more aware of our modesty as ladies. I do not dress modestly because I have to, I choose to wear clothing that I do, because I want to please the Lord with my WHOLE life. I enjoy wearing modest clothes and I would never even want to wear anything that would take the place of being modest. I don't just dress the way that I do because the Bible tells me to, I do because of the mercy of GOD. The Lord has given me everything and at the very least I want to please Him. If we are not willing to dress modestly for someone who died for us, what does that say about our testimony? The Bible says in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.” I want to glorify my Father in everything that I say and do...DO YOU?
Oh, be careful little mouth what you say… Oh, be careful little mouth what you say… For the Father up above is looking down in love… Oh, be careful little mouth what you say!
