What is Our Purpose? - April Stanley
What is our purpose?
Why are we here?
As a child, is it to wait until we grow up so God can use us? Is it to wait until graduation, or marriage or motherhood before it all comes clear?
What if those things never happen for us?
Are we less than others? Less blessed?
Less spiritual? Less loved?
I was counseling a young woman recently who told me that she had been asking God what her purpose was and that she was met with silence. She sounded confused and a bit hurt that there was no answer.
I was able to share with her that the answer is found in God’s Word. He has not been silent on the matter, but has given us guidance and a plan to fulfill His purpose in our lives.
Are you ready for the answer?
Our purpose is to glorify God and to bring glory to God in all that we do.
1Corinthians 6:20
For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s.
1Corinthians 10:31
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
We are to bring glory to God! No matter what we are doing or where we are in life. This is our purpose. We don’t have to be grown up or married or a mother.
Eating, drinking and putting on clothes are basic things that every human does. The smallest things. Even those are to being glory to God.
How are we supposed to know what to do?
I’m glad you asked.
The Word of God tells us what to do.
Are you willing to listen and obey?
* Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
* The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.
Nothing replaces reading your Bible every day and praying to our Father in Heaven. No podcast, devotional, sermon, blog post, or any other kind of post will do for you what the Holy Spirit through the Word can do.
Those other things help and we should read and listen to things that edify the believer, but it should never be a replacement for time with God Himself.
There is something wonderful and precious about getting alone , just you and God, and communing in spirit and truth. It is priceless.
We can easily be overwhelmed by all the things that we think we need to be doing, but the reality is quite simple.
Ecclesiastes 12:13
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
We can’t keep his commandments if we don’t know what they are.
Get in the Word!
