The Promise of His Presence - Susannah Faulk

The Promise of His Presence

Psalm 139

Have you ever received a text, call or letter with the message, “Hey! I was just thinking about you!”?  How wonderful to be the recipient of that sentiment, not only for the fact that someone was thinking of you, but that they took the time to let you know as well!

This Psalm declares how beloved and numerous God’s thoughts are of each of us individually…

“How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.” (Verses 17-18)

You could never count even a handful of grains of sand, yet God’s precious thoughts for you far out way all the grains of sand in all the shores and oceans of the world… that is incomprehensible! Mind blowing!

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Not just any thoughts, but wonderful thoughts with a definitive plan for your life! There isn’t a moment that Almighty God is not thinking peaceful, precious thoughts of you!

Believing that promise, we can agree with David as he says in Psalm 139:6… “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.”

Not only are His thoughts with you continually, He Himself is with you always…

“O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways…. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.” (Verses 1-3, 5)

You are unable to leave His presence... wherever you go, He goes with you.

“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost part of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.” (Verses 7-12)

That means everything you go through…

Financial struggles

Childrearing troubles

Illness

Loss of a loved one

Marriage issues

Conflict

Uncertainty

… whatever you’re facing, wherever you are, He is right there with you!  What amazing peace can be found in the promises of God, “…for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5b)
