The Whole Earth is Full of the Lord - Janelle Dignan

Psalm 19:1

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”

Spring is here!!  Don’t you just love spring?  I just love the changing of all the seasons, but there is just something special about spring as everything bursts into color again.

May I challenge you to really see nature this spring?  As they say, “Take time to smell the roses.” But don’t just appreciate nature for its beauty!  Take time to appreciate and see the Maker, the One Who created nature.

Our church choir sings “The Whole Earth is Full of the Lord”.  Here are some of the lyrics to this song.

“Look around you, read His story,

All of nature is revealing its Creator

Gaze in wonder, glimpse His glory

Come and behold, come and behold,

See your Maker.

The earth is full of His presence

All of nature, all creation speaks His word.

Every bird, every tree, every breath that we breathe,

Proves He is real, He is here,

He is Lord!!”

I love to take walks outside and talk to the Lord.  His creation really reveals so much about God and many of His attributes.  What attributes of God do you think of when you see His creation??

I love to see the sunrise.  There are few things more beautiful!  Every morning, no matter what is going on in the world or even in my life, the sun still comes up.  This reminds me of God’s faithfulness and mercy. The Bible tells us in

Lamentations 3:22 and 23,

“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.”

Aren’t you so thankful that God is merciful and faithful?  When your world is rocked, remember, God is Faithful!

I love to watch the birds in our backyard.    We see robins, chickadees, woodpeckers, an occasional bluejay and many cardinals.  My favorites are the cardinals. Their bright red plumage really stands out in the winter with all the brown trees and especially after a fresh snow.  It is rare that I don’t see a cardinal flitting about our backyard when I stop for a minute to watch. I homeschool my children and usually during a break each day, I’ll slip upstairs and watch the cardinals out my kitchen window.  They are especially busy in the spring time. They remind me of God’s love.

Matthew 10: 29-31 tells us,  “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing?  And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.”

God cares about the birds that fly about my backyard but according to this verse, He values me so much more than any bird.  In fact, He proved His love to us by His sacrifice on the cross. Oh what a Savior!!! Take time to watch the birds. Let them remind you of their Maker and His love for you.

My husband’s absolute favorite creation to see is a shooting star.   We’ve all come to look for them now, especially when we travel at night.

After Thanksgiving last fall, our family was blessed to be able to go on vacation to Florida.  We arrived at the resort where we were staying about 9:00 PM. We got checked in and unpacked and decided to walk down to the beach since it was only about a 3 minute walk.  When we walked out onto the beach it struck me at how very dark it was. There was no moon. You could hear the waves beating the shore but could barely see the water. That night, the sky with its brilliant stars, stole the show. The stars just “popped”.   It was so beautiful! My youngest daughter and I had been studying constellations in school so we started pointing out many different constellations as they could be easily seen. She mentioned that she had never seen a shooting star and had been praying the last few months that she would see one soon. We told her maybe she should pray that God would give her a shooting star that night.   Our family began talking about God and how powerful and amazing He is. We started testifying and praising the Lord for His goodness, His power, His love and His many blessings to us. After awhile, we started singing…..”He counts the stars one and all, knows how much sand is on the shore….” while we stood on the sand looking at the stars. It truly was a beautiful time. We sang several other songs. The kids started singing, “We Bless Thee, Lord, God of the Ages”.  Right at the end of the song as they were singing, “Who can compare, Who can compare to You?”, THERE IT WAS…… A BEAUTIFUL SHOOTING STAR!!! All six of us had seen it!!! The kids stopped singing mid-song and we all just cheered and clapped, laughed and cried!! God gave us a shooting star! It was almost as if God had to show off a bit since we were bragging on Him so much. Boy!! Did we enjoy the show!! None of us will ever ever forget that night!!

The Bible tells us in

Psalm 19:1

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.”

Isn’t it amazing that the God of creation, the God of the universe WANTS TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH ME??  I get to spend time with Him each day in His precious Word. I get to walk and talk with Him through prayer.   His Spirit indwells me and I get to represent Him to a world that only sees nature for its beauty. If only they could understand that the beauty of nature represents a great big powerful God Who is Wonderful, Loving, Faithful, and Majestic Who wants to have a relationship with them.  It is our job to tell them!

So, this spring, and every season, take time to enjoy the beauty of nature.  Let it remind you of many of the attributes of our amazing Creator. Take time to appreciate Him, worship Him, meditate on Him and love Him.  Then, tell someone else about Him.
