Seeing the Need to Intercede - Charlotte Cooper

This isn't an original thought with me, I once heard a message on this thought a year or two ago and it has stuck with me ever since. I cannot remember all of what the preacher said or all the bible passages he read but the general thought that stuck with me was seeing the importance and need for prayer.

Often our prayer life and compassion for others especially lost souls, will suffer if we neglect to see the importance of it in a Christian's life.

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.  But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.  Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;   Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Matthew 9:35‭-‬38 KJV

Do we have this compassion like Jesus did? We need to have this compassion that takes this thought and then drives us to our knees! There are lost souls we pass by everyday! Lost souls!!! Are we going to our prayer closets ,praying that we might have the power, wisdom, truth, and opportunities to share the good news with others? If we do not have the mind of Christ we will pass by those that truly need the gospel. With the blood of Jesus, He looks past our financial standing, our looks, our failures and just sees lost souls in need of a Saviour.

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; ..........Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

1 Timothy 2:1‭, ‬4 KJV

"....They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.   But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Matthew 9:12‭-‬13 KJV

COMPASSIONnoun 1. A suffering with another; painful sympathy; a sensation of sorrow excited by the distress or misfortunes of another; pity; commiseration. compassion is a mixed passion, compounded of love and sorrow;

How often do we pray that God would send us opportunities to share the good news, do we prepare in Prayer?

Prayer is such a crucial part in winning souls for it is not us or our power that will win souls but the compassion and power of the Word of God.

We need to

1.Prepare our hearts in prayer and study, ask for the compassion that Jesus had.

2. Pray for the wisdom and the opportunities as the Lord brings them.

3.Perform . Carry out what the Lord has called you to do

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Proverbs 11:30 KJV

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.  Seeing then that all these othings shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,  Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?  Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.  Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

2 Peter 3:9‭-‬14 KJV
