Is Your Life on Cruise Control? - Rachel Strosnider

A while back I took an eight hour car trip by myself. After I got away from the city traffic I turned on my cruise control. Although cruise control is a helpful tool to keep you from speeding, I noticed there were some dangers involved too. When I turned on cruise control it allowed me to relax and I began to get sleepy. I also noticed it was easy to get distracted which could have caused me to not be alert to sudden dangers (potholes, stopped vehicles, debris, etc…). It would also be easy to lose focus and miss a turn off that is needed.

I began to realize that in life it can become easy to turn on “cruise control” and go through life doing our routines without thought of purpose. Dishes need washed, papers stack up, laundry piles need sorted, groceries need bought, family needs cared for, Sunday School lessons need studied, etc…

Is your life on cruise control? Are you weary in the work that you are doing? “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap if we faint not.” (Galatians 6:9) Continue faithful in serving knowing that the rewards for serving God are eternal.

Are you distracted? “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established”. (Proverbs 3:24) “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105) Read your Bible then let God’s Word show you where to go and warn you of dangers on life’s path.

Have you lost your focus? “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” (James 4:14)

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33) Remember our time here on earth is short. Keep your focus on God’s kingdom.

Don’t be so busy with “life” that you miss the opportunities He puts in your path to spend time with God one-on-one, witness, encourage others, and invest in peoples’ lives for eternity!
