Is Serving Others Where I Need to Be? - Faye Jalbert

Back in 2001, the Lord allowed me to sit, as a receptionist, in a mission’s office.  I was there for many, many years.  The greatest blessings I received, was talking to women from around the world.  Ladies from all walks of life need to have someone to talk to at times.  Being a missionary wife from the other side of the world, where you do not yet speak the language of the people, with only her husband and children to talk to can be hard and lonely.  I had the opportunity to laugh with them, cry with them, and pray with them.  I was able to be an encouragement to those ladies and for that I am grateful.

We are going to take a look at a question asked in the Bible, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” found in Genesis 4:9.  I am sure we have all thought about this question only to realize that each of us have an awesome responsibility toward our fellowman.

This is especially true of Christians since we are to emulate the example of Christ.  He never refused to meet a human need.  It is my conviction that helping others is one of the greatest rewards of Christianity.

Many times, Christians are really not experiencing the joy of serving Jesus, because they are not serving His children.  In Matthew 25:42-45, Jesus says, “For I was an hungred, and ye game me no meat: I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink:  I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked and ye clothed me not: sick and in prison and ye visited me not.  Then shall they also answer him saying, Lord when saw we thee hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?”  And now for the topic of our devotion…verse 45, “Then shall he answer them saying, Verily I say unto you. Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.”

Christians who are not active is service often become unsettled and unhappy.  Some Christians seem to think service is spelled “serve us,” but it isn’t.

I know what I will be talking about today pertains to all Christians, but I would like to focus in, be a little more pointed and address the ladies.  We are the ones who can make a difference in our surroundings.

Please read the following lines and ask God if serving others is where you need to be:

If I could be anywhere, I would not be here

I would be where everyone was nice and kind to each other

I would be where nobody threw stones, and nobody cried

If I could be anywhere, I would not be here

I would be where no one was lonely, and everyone had at least three friends

I would be where no one would laugh when I made a mistake

And no one comes in last, and everyone would get a prize just for trying

If I could be anywhere, I would not be here

But I am here

So, I will bring where I want to be to where I am!

I will find the one that makes a mistake and encourage them to keep trying!

I will look for the lonely person and say, “Can I sit with you?”

I will look for tears of hurt and sadness and offer my towel of peace and joy

I will search for the heartless and give them a part of mine

So, if I bring where I want to be to where I am

Then this is where I need to be

So, to answer the question, “Is Serving Others Where I Need to Be”, the answer would be YES!

January 2021…A new year has begun.  With all that everyone has had to deal with this past year, we have a lot of work to do.  God has put us here for such a time as this.  Let’s start today!
