Meek and Quiet Spirit - Melody Ballard

The book of Esther begins with a true account of two queens, both of these queens exhibited admirable qualities, beautiful Queen Vashti and her successor Esther. The Bible tells us that Vashti is very beautiful, she displayed high principles of moral conduct as she refused to obey dishonorable command of her husband the king, as he was drunk he commended her "... to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on. But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by the chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him. ( Esther 1:11b-12).

As we know her decision of principles caused Vashti's removal from the kingdom,  but it also was God's way for Esther to begin the journey of preserving God's chosen people, her people the Jews.

Esther 4:14 God is not mentioned in the book Esther, we do know that God had His hand is all over in every event. God allowed Vashti to be removed, from being queen and positioned Esther to become the new queen.

The physical preparations were of course, just that, physical to enhance her outward beauty, but the preparations of her inward beauty and characteristics had been in the making for many years. The one quality that I love about Esther, is her meek and quite spirit. Before Esther become the queen she had been raised in the home of her cousin, Mordecai. The Bible tells us that Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took her for his own daughter, Esther2:7. Esther allowed Mordecai to be her leader even when she became the queen. The only instruction Mordecai gave Esther was that she not show her people nor her kindred Esther 2:10. Then later in verse 20 of chapter 2 God's testimony of Esther is, Esther did the command of Mordecai, "Esther had not yet showed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was brought up with him." She was obedient and respectful with a meek and quite spirit. Esther's life is truly characterized in 1 Peter 3:4 "But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quite spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price."

Esther never tried to elevate herself even when she became Queen Esther, and because of her meek and quite spirit, Esther's cousin Mordecai was put into position to save the Jews, their people.

My prayer so often for my life is that I will have a meek and quite spirit like gracious and sweet Queen Esther.
