Born into a Christian Home - Krista Wood

Hi! My name is Krista Wood. I have been a member of Harvesters Baptist Church in London, Ontario Canada since I was a toddler! My dad was my Pastor for most of my life, up until he retired a few years ago, and now I get the privilege, to serve the Lord with my brother-in-law as my Pastor. I have the opportunity to teach an amazing group of adult ladies each week for Sunday School and I love to serve in any aspect that I am needed for our church! God has been very good to me.

I was born into a Christian home and went to church every Sunday.  I remember one Sunday morning sitting in church listening to the message and when it was time for the invitation, I knew that I needed to accept Jesus as my Saviour.  I went home and that afternoon my dad sat with me on the couch and clearly explained the Gospel to me and I accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour when I was 4 years old.  I was baptized the next year.

My life didn’t really change after getting saved, I still went to church and loved Jesus.  When I got a little older my dad became the pastor of Harvesters Baptist Church.  After this happened, I went to church more than ever! I loved every minute.  When I turned 12, we started a youth group.  I was the only one! Within a week or two we had some boys start coming from town.  This was the start of our Friday night basketball.  I remember during this time that I started to doubt my salvation once in a while.  I kept praying that I was saved.  I remember telling people I was doubting and they were patient with me and would go over it with me.  The one thing that really helped me a lot was after I explained how I got saved I was then asked “what else do I remember from when I was 4?” I didn’t have one other memory from then.  My closest memory was maybe 5 or 6 when I fell off my bike after falling off the curb and hitting a parked car and having quite the black eye.  I realized that it was such a huge moment in my life and I would never forget it.  I know that I am going to Heaven when I die and I praise the Lord for Him saving my soul!

I have so many times that I am reminded of my salvation and the blessing of being raised in a Christian home.

Someone told me that we had been sheltered growing up.  They were saying it as a negative.  I consider that a privilege.  Here is the definition for sheltered:

protected from difficult or unpleasant experiences.

These are the verse that come to mind when I think of Protected
Ps 91:1-4
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

My parents were so careful to make sure that I was protected from so many dangers in this world.

It is such a privilege to have grown up in a Christian home.  Knowing that the Lord is covering me like a baby bird is protected under its mother’s feathers is such an incredible thought!

There have been many times when I feel like I’m not trusting the Lord enough.  He has been so faithful and so good to me.  There have been trials and it is in those times that I have grown and the Lord has carried me through them.

My life verse from a teenager is:
Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I used to think that it’s a good verse because he will work everything out for good.  I have since learned that the key words in that verse are “to them that love God.” Loving God has become my goal.  I want to love Him more than anything. I am so thankful how he continues to show me how to love.  We love Him because He first loved us.  Sometimes we think how good it is that we love him so much.  But the greater amazement is that he loves us!! The more I discover how much he loves me, the more I love Him.  I pray that I will always be growing in my relationship with the Lord.
